We all know that installing 4gb of RAM will speed up a MacBook and make the whole experience that little bit more smoother and rapidly and without delay – but what may you do NOW for FREE that will support speed your bundle of joy along and keep it’s user happier? I will tell you 6 things that will help. 1. Remove files from the desktop Each time that OS X loads it has to index the contents of the desktop, manufacture thumbnail icons for each file and catalog the contents of each folder there. Do yourself a favor and move those files to the applicable folders they belong in. This will increase the speed at which your desktop loads and accordingly make your MacBook faster. 2. Remove undesirable commence up applications Go into System Preferences and User Accounts. View the list of apps that have been set to start out versus your user name and remove (untick) any that you don’t need any longer. It’s outstanding to have iChat begin mechanically – but not essential. You may view a list of apps running in the background by using the top command from the Terminal window or by using the Activity Monitor application. 3. Disable the Dashboard This is my favored “speed up” repair for the MacBook and it works wonders each time. The OS X dashboard is outstanding if you use it all the time, but each one of those swish little appliances and web clips is taking up memory – and you can’t even see them unless you ask for them! To disable the dashboard, open Terminal and enter the following command: defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES You may then either reboot the MacBook or enter the following command into the Terminal window: killall Dock If you miss your weather gimmicks and stocks information, you may reverse the command by entering: defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO And again either reboot or enter: killall Dock 4. Clear the PRAM (intel MacBooks only) Reboot your computer while keeping down the command + option + p + r keys together. Don’t stop until you have heard the commence up chime three or four times. This is not a real way of speeding up your MacBook, but it will kill any gremlins that have worked their way into the non-volatile RAM settings. I found that it seemed to grant my MacBook to boot faster. 5. Clear the PMU (MacBook, Pro and Air) You may use this method to clear non-volatile RAM and settings on the MacBook products. Whilst it will not cause your MacBook to of a sudden leap into speed mode, it will get rid of any mis-configurations and setting issues. MacBook, MacBook Pro 1. Ensure that the MacBook is turned off. 2. Remove the power adapter and remove the battery. 3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release. 4. Reconnect the battery and power adapter. 5. Press the power button to restart the MacBook. MacBook Air 1. Ensure that the MacBook Air is turned off. 2. Connect the power adaptor to a working power source. 3. On the MacBook Air keyboard, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once. Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the MacBook Air keyboard. 4. Wait 5 seconds and press the power button to get started the MacBook Air. 6. Disable unneeded scheme options. If you are not using Wireless, Bluetooth, Speech Recognition or Internet Sharing – then turn them off! Not only will you see a speed increase but you will save battery life too!

Too Many Bugs – Frustrating to Play
By David G. Goshorn II
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR THE WII – IT IS BROKEN OUT OF THE BOX AND HARMONIX/EA/NINTENDO ARE CURRENTLY DOING NOTHING TO FIX IT.
For me, this is a family game. We were so excited to be adding a keyboard and a lot of new music to our collction.
We got it as a family gift for Christmas.
From the very beginning it was frustrating.
The first thing we noticed was that the Bass (kick) drum is out of sync. Try all you want with various calibration methods and it will never be there.
Then we noticed the vocal problems. The vocals don’t register accurately and it is impossible to go into overdrive vocally.
Then it gave us the high pitched screeeeeach over the speakers.
Then it crashed after a song.
It is very frustrating to play and we usually just give up and go back to RB2 or GH:5
Here is a link discussing on the problems on the RockBand.com forum:

1. Bass pedal out of sync no matter what you do to calibrate
2. Dreamscapes sometimes appear in all of the songs you play in a setlist, or randomly for no reason, even when not on All instrument mode.
3. High pitched noises while starting some songs with the mics connected, this wont go away unless you go back to the song listing. This will also cause the mics to get stuck with some kind of feedback and become unresponding untill you wait some time or disconnect them (as if the buzz is still reverberating for some time)
4. Random Freezes while finishing a song (score screens), making setlists, connecting to the music store. Sometimes the loading icon will remain and you have to reset the console, sometimes the music will just stutter and after some time you are able to continue.
5. Shaky arrow on vocals, it goes all over the place even when it is registering your voice kinda ok (not perfectly like it did on RB though)
6. Overdrive not activating when playing with a little of high volume
7. Some talkies in the songs dont register at all, maybe it has something to do with number 6
8. You cant hear yourself at all through the speakers when singing, only if you lower the original track to a minimum and still your voice comes out strange or really low or distorted (maybe it has something to do with mic sensitivity once again)
9. Pedal hooked up to Keyboard does not trigger Overdrive (I believe this is a universal issue across all platforms)
10. During the load screen between songs in a setlist, the Wii cut off all power/connections to the USB ports (i.e., all accessories attached quit working & the status lights on my USB hub indicated no connection). This led to having to press RESET to do anything else, as even activating the Wii Remote wasn’t helpful since the other instruments couldn’t “drop out.”
11. When the game decides to do Dreamscapes instead of venues, characters do not show at all, not one of them. Therefore, since while playing online the game always chooses Dreamscapes, we cant see other ppl characters.
12. Issue: vocal volume (noted already) example here: [...] — that has the track vocals turned all the way down and my mic turned all the way up. It’s a direct cap so that’s what is getting sent to the sound system. The band sounds just fine, the vocals are quiet as a mouse. In the video you also can see the jumpy vocal cursor issue.
13. Issue: unreliable taps. I think in some cases it is due to song timing slightly speeding up or slowing down but I am regularly missing taps on certain songs (this is not normal). I’ve switched to using the WiiMote because using the mic is an invitation to fail.
14. Breakneck Speed always disabled in Practice Mode
15. Some character models sometimes break during the performance, showing strange polygons out of their arms or instruments, this goes on to the cutscenes if you dont log out and re-login (I guess it reloads the character models)
A discussion of these and other issues can be found at the rockband forum:

Rock Band 3
By linedancer
We purchased the Rock Band 3 bundle for the Wii system for our granddaughter and she is very happy with this gift. I ordered this from Amazon because we could not find the bundled package (Software package) in some of the stores we visited. The package was delivered in the time frame stated by Amazon and it was in excellent condition when it arrived.

We’ve been having so much fun with this and all the other instruments that go with the wii rock band group. My 7 yr. old and his friends have been playing since Christmas.
